Boudou wants to control Pesce with his own troops

The government backs the minister's move to have greater interference in the bank

by Candelaria de la Sota

Miguel Pesce is now in front of the Central Bank. But from the government, they sent a clear message: they are not giving him all the power inside the monetary authority. The one charged to remind him of that will be Benigno V lez, an official very close to Amado Boudou who will hang up his hat as Legal and Technical Secretary at Economy to put on the one as general director of the BCRA.

The arrival of this economist at the Central Bank gives rise to several interpretations. There are those who say that it's a triumph for the Economy Minister, because they are friends for many years. In fact, it was Benigno V lez who Boudou brought in to work at ANSeS when the now-head of the Palacio de Hacienda finished being received as an economist.

However, there are rumors that say that it was Cristina Kirchner herself that asked him to sit in the chair of the general director of the Central Bank as an official who would serve to control Pesce.

It's not that the government doesn't trust Pesce a K-radical who has distanced himself from Vice President Julio Cobos but it seems that the Casa Rosada still regrets having given so much power to Redrado and they don't want to make the same mistake again.

Whatever the origins of designating V lez, what is clear is that this official, who already knows the Central Bank because until yesterday he was the nexus between the Economy Ministry and the monetary authority, he will have to also try to keep the pro-government troops inside the Central Bank board of directors in line and balanced. Among them are los ping inos (e.g. members of the Kirchner circle from Santa Cruz) Waldo Far as, Gabriela Ciganotto and Carlos S nchez, with ex-Finance Secretary Sergio Chodos, who after his stint at the ANSeS kept a direct line open with Boudou.

As Clarin reported, two of them will take new functions, which will add to their responsibilities as directors at the Bank. Gabriela Ciganotto will not be the new second vice president. It happens as Pesce, who is the first vice president, is now the head of the presidency of the bank, having had to name a second vice president to cover the position should Pesce have to be absent.

Sergio Chodos, therefore, is preparing to take the position that for some time has been vacant: Vice Superintendent of Financial Entities. It will be as second to Carlos Sanchez, who leads this area dedicated to controlling the actions of the banks. However, his nomination could be delayed for some days because it is a position that must be designated by the President of the Nation, at the request of the head of the Central Bank.
