Argentina Swap Deadline Passes With No Decision On Extension
Wall Street Journal
June 23, 2010
BUENOS AIRES (Dow Jones)--The deadline for Argentina's offer to swap over $18 billion in defaulted bonds came and went Tuesday, but government officials remained coy over whether they would again extend the deal.
"No decision has been made yet," said a source at the Economy Ministry who asked not to be named. The results will be analyzed tonight and tomorrow, with an announcement planned for Wednesday, the source said as he prepared to watch Argentina play Greece at the World Cup.
Officials at the ministry were upbeat Tuesday as the final results of the swap filtered in. However, analysis of those results may take a while, as most of the officials were glued to a screen in a theater in the ministry Tuesday afternoon to cheer on the national team as it beat Greece 2-0 and advanced to the next round of the tournament.
