Argentina's government must provide more information on how it measures inflation, according to a decision by an appeals court yesterday, La Nacion said.
The Economy Ministry has 10 working days to hand over data on the types and numbers of goods used to calculate consumer prices, La Nacion said. The ministry oversees the national statistics institute, which collects and disseminates the data.
The finding rejects a government appeal of a lower court's decision in favor of the Civil Rights Association, which called on the government to provide more information on the monthly inflation reports, the newspaper said.
Argentina's inflation reports have been questioned by some economists and opposition leaders since January 2007, when then President Nestor Kirchner began changing personnel at the statistics institute in order to ``improve operations.''
