"Applause from the US Congress"
Ambito Financiero
September 04, 2008

The Chairman of the US House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Eliot Engel, congratulated President Cristina de Kirchner yesterday for committing to pay the total debt with the Paris Club.

I am very impressed with the leadership in Argentina and also its excellent ambassador in Washington, Hector Timerman, who has performed a central role on this issue , said the legislator. And he added: "I am enchanted that Argentina has taken this important step forward, and I hope that this generates a greater confidence on the part of investors and greater economic prosperity for the country," Engel said in a release out of Washington yesterday.

I believe that the announcement will help strengthen the strong relations that exist between the United States and Argentina. We hope to work with the Argentine government on the steps toward normalizing relations with all foreign creditors.
